The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil), 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
