He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
