Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 The multiple and the one, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter into My garden. 30
