The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 And We sent against them a howling wind in a Day of continuous of ill fortune 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
