The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 Indeed We have sent down the Qur’an, and indeed We Ourselves surely are its Guardians. (This is one of the miracles of the Qur’an – no one has been able to change even one letter of its text, despite every effort. It has remained in its original form since the 6th Century (A. D) and will remain so forever. Other Holy Books such as the Torah and the Bible have lost their originality.) 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 they do not believe in it. This has been the wont of people of this kind from ancient times. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
