And whoever turns himself away from the remembrance of the Beneficent Allah, We appoint for him a Shaitan, so he becomes his associate. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 Until when he comes to Us, he says: O would that between me and you there were the distance of the East and the West; so evil is the associate! 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 Can you make the deaf to hear, or show the blind, and those lost in clear error, the way? 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 Or show you what We have promised them – We therefore have complete control over them. 42 So hold fast to all that has been revealed to thee: for, behold, thou art on a straight way; 43 And it is undoubtedly an honour for you and your people; and you will soon be questioned. 44 Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you, "Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent One?" 45
