The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
