The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Blackening the skins. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
