He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
