The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
