The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
