He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
