When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said, “In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted.” 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 He said, “These are my guests – do not dishonour me.” 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 So the shriek seized them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
