The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
