The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 on lavish couches 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right. 38
