Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
