And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 And now we have none to intercede for us, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
