Nay, by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the morn when it dawns! 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humans, 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
