A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and many from the later generations. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
