The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
