He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
