Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and arranged cushions 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
