Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
