Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
