۞ And when the example of the son of Maryam is given, your people laugh at it! 57 and say: "Which is better - our deities or he?" [But] it is only in the spirit of dispute that they put this comparison before thee: yea, they are contentious folk! 58 Jesus was a servant of Ours to whom We had granted favors and whom We made as an example for the Israelites. 59 And had We willed We could have appointed angels born of you in the earth to succeed each other. 60 And he ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)] shall be a known sign for (the coming of) the Hour (Day of Resurrection) [i.e. 'Iesa's (Jesus) descent on the earth]. Therefore have no doubt concerning it (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). And follow Me (Allah) (i.e. be obedient to Allah and do what He orders you to do, O mankind)! This is the Straight Path (of Islamic Monotheism, leading to Allah and to His Paradise). 61 And let not the Shaitan prevent you; surely he is your open enemy. 62 And when Jesus came with the clear signs he said, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of that whereon you are at variance; so fear you God and obey you me. 63 Verily Allah! He is my lord and your Lord, so worship Him: this is the straight path. 64 But the parties among them fell into variance; so woe unto those who did evil, because of the chastisement of a painful day. 65 What are they waiting for except the Last Day, that it may suddenly come upon them while they are unaware? 66 The intimate friends on that Day will be hostile unto one another save the God-fearing. 67
