The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
