He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
