The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
