Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
