The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 who guard their privates 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
