Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
