So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said, “In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted.” 63 We have come to you for a genuine purpose and We are true in what we say. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 We turned the town upside down and rained upon them stones of clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
