The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And affirms goodness, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
