۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
