The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
