The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
