The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
