The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
