A multitude of those of old 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
