The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
