The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
