The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
