Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
