The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
