We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
