Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
