The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 They will come forth,- their eyes humbled - from (their) graves, (torpid) like locusts scattered abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
