Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
