The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who committed evil was evil, for they belied the signs of God, and they derided them. 10
