Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
